Genesis means beginning - the beginning of a new life, the beginning of your family with a new member as a part. Midwifery has been around since the beginning of time. The first books of the Bible make reference to some amazing midwives. A midwife assisted Rachel in the birth of Benjamin, and said to her, “Do not be afraid.” The midwives who were attending the births of the Israelite slaves saved many Israelite boys from death, and said the Israelite women were too vigorous and were having their babies too quickly. Midwives have historically attended women in birth and created faster and less fearful births.
Family – Home birth is a family event. Women can include their families to the extent they desire. Family involvement is encouraged. This makes it unique from a hospital birth, and more sacred.
Midwifery – following the midwifery model of care. Pregnancy and birth are natural processes, and become complicated when we treat them like illness. Focus on nutrition, exercise and prevention of complications by using the body’s intrinsic self-healing capacities are hallmarks of midwifery care.
